Introduction
Advance Elder Equipping Tool is a discipleship training track that is designed to equip and develop potential elders to serve within Advance churches in Africa. The programme is a 1 year cohort based programme, with monthly training sessions aimed at both practical and pastoral aspects of being an Elder of a local Church.
This track is designed with the direct aim of equipping and developing a potential Elder’s ability to contribute to guiding, guarding and governing the local church. As such the course has several elements to it.
- To develop a theological framework for each individual in which they learn how to develop a policy or position on a given topic from the Bible as their primary source.
- To impart knowledge of some critical and foundational theological concepts and doctrines that will inspire confidence in those given the responsibility before God to guard, guide and govern.
- To equip the potential Elder with an ability to rightly divide the word of God for personal and corporate applications.
- To develop practical pastoral skills through a series of video’s, study questions, and interactive discussions and practical exercises.
- To create a discipleship environment, centred on the bible and doctrine that will help sharpen a local Eldership team.
- Separate to this course, we would encourage you to equip yourself in area’s of preaching and sound doctrine.
Format of Course:
This course is intended to equip you for the role of elder. To do so we have provided you with a variety of media to engage with in preparation. Completing this course does not and will not qualify you for the role of Elder within your local congregation. However, this course will give you a good insight into the role and help you, your eldership team and the broader advance team assess your potential for the role. Irrelevant to whether you are called to the role and function of Eldership, this course will provide valuable discipleship to you and enhance your journey with Christ. To that end we encourage you to apply yourself to the material and to the journey ahead.
You will be required to watch a 30 – 40 minute video once a month, read and listen to related material. Apply yourself to what is discussed at a theological level. Pray through the positions and interpretations of scripture. Complete a study guide once a month. Engage with a cohort group on the subject material. Engage with your eldership team on the material. Engage with your lead elder on your progress and thinking on the material.
